This works for me! December 21, 2005 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Wow. I can sit in one spot and control everything-my Zenith TV, my Sony receiver, my Phillips DVD player and I'd program the cats to refresh my softdrink if that was possible (they're an offbrand--no setup codes). Some codes worked right away and others I had to do a code search for. Most often this is time consuming and requires a bit of patience. I didn't find searching as much of a hassle with this remote. The buttons are easy to use and the directions are very clear. What's even better is that it has a menu button for the TV. Most universal remotes DO NOT have this which makes things difficult if you need to change the programming on the TV. If your cable company adds a new channel, if the programming goes out of whack in the TV or if you want to use the sleep timer, it's very important to be able to access the TV menu. If you don't have that option you are SOL about changing anything unless there's a button in the front panel of the TV.br /This remote may cost a few more dollars than the cheapie variety but it was well worth it for me not to have a bunch of different remotes to work everything. I can point, push and everything turns on or off. br /Edit to posting. I did have a problem with the remote losing programming but found the helpful RCA site. http://www.rca.com/customerservice They have codes there for everything you want to program in. It's in the middle of the page highlighted in gray.br /
Great except NO Battery Retention! October 5, 2005 I bought this remote for my Mother, and it is really nice except for one thing. It forgets all of your codes for TV, DVD, etc. when you replace the batteries. This is an important feature that most new universal remotes have. Therefore I cannot recommend this remote. It's too bad because other than its major flaw, this is really a nice looking remote. At night it really lights up everything. It only uses two AA batteries and every time you press a key the entire thing lights but. This will quickly drain the two small batteries. So you'll need to replace the batteries often and then you'll need to reprogram it every time. What a shame! Also I should mention the reason I had to buy this remote is because the RCA remote that comes with DirecTV has a huge mechanical flaw; i.e., it breaks. There's a battery plate inside the remote that is only held on the board by a tiny solder joint. After replacing the batteries numerous times, the joint breaks. I don't know if the RCA fixed this flaw in the new remotes, but after peeking inside it doesn't look like they fixed it.
Not all that universal... January 25, 2005 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I originally bought this over a year ago for my HT Setup. I was able to program my TV (Mitsubishi) easily, but when it came to all the other devices (receiver, dvd player, ld player, vcr, etc..), it did not work. I entered in different program codes, but no luck.br /br /Save yourself some headaches and consider looking for another universal remote.
Bought this to replace the original December 3, 2003 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
The orginal remote that came with my RCA TV went totally dead. We couldn't operate the TV at all. This remote, although not exactly the same, is much the same design. When it arrived I put in two AAA batteries and it worked just like the original. We are very happy with the purchase--in fact, grateful because we can now use our TV.
RCU810MSL ... returned it. June 28, 2003 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
One would think that an RCA remote would work with an RCA dish TV controller... wrong! In code set mode, I tried all four codes that were listed, none worked. I tried the auto search feature, it failed as well. The controller box went on and off but thats all, couldn't get the menu or Info buttons to work. In despiration I tried to have it IR Learn individual buttons from an existing controller. It reported Success every time but none of the buttons worked on the controller box. After wasting 3 days trying, I returned it.
