Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The new KX-TG2583 is the top model in Panasonic's fourth generation of "GigaRange" 2.4GHz cordless phones, and the second generation of "Extreme" phones. Unlike the previous top-of-the-line KX-TG2570, it has a speakerphone with a keypad in the base, as well as a digital answerer. It is shock- and splash-resistant like the earlier models, and has a number of improvements. The phone base features the "Diversity" antenna system. This technology, used for wireless microphones in concerts as well as in mobile radio equipment, incorporates two antennas mounted in different locations. With two antennas, there is a better chance that one will receive a clear signal. A circuit inside the phone base automatically chooses the better signal, so you get the best communication possible.Caller ID with Call Waiting can display the caller's name and phone number on the illuminated three-line LCD screen on the handset, and on the base's display screen, even if you are currently on a call when a second call comes in. To access the stored Caller ID information, you can use the "navigator" key located on the handset. This multi-function button allows you to easily scroll up and down through the Caller ID log for the caller's information, viewable on the handset's LCD. Also viewable via the handset display is a 50-name and number Caller ID memory with dialer for later review and instant callback. The digital answerer has extremely good voice quality with 15 minutes of recording time and you can retrieve your messages form the base, handset, or any other phone with touch-tone dialing. The unit uses "flash" memory, and will retain recorded messages in a power failure.

Amazon.com Product Description
A digital cordless phone with exceptional signal quality and a host of added features, Panasonic's KXTG2583 also provides a sleek design and a fully integrated answering center. Operating on the 2.4 GHz band, as opposed to the more common 900 MHz band, this phone is able to offer significantly increased clarity and handset range. Sensitivity to handset signal is increased by providing two omni directional antennas, while error-correction software helps to increase the range of the handset without significant signal loss. The phone also utilizes digital spread-spectrum technology, which enhances security by shifting frequencies multiple times every second.p The KCTG2583 includes many convenient featur. You can adjust ringer and handset volumes to your liking and also have the option of choosing tone or pulse dialing. You can expect about 4.5 hours of talk time and about 11 days of standby before recharging the handset battery. The speakerphone lets you roam at will and is fully digital, resulting in more intelligible conversations with less echo and dropout. LED screens on both the handset and base tell you the name and number of incoming calls, even if you are on the other line, while a two-way paging system can either locate that ever-elusive handset or let you talk to someone in another room. The base is easily wall mountable, and the handset is headset compatible.p The answering center is more like a personal secretary than a simple machine. The built in memory can hold 15 minutes of date/time stamped messages, while the speed dial memory stores up to 50 of your most frequently dialed numbers. If you're a subscriber to voice messaging services, you can program the phone to notify you when you have new messages in your box.p Reasonably priced for the number of features, the KXTG2583 also comes backed with a one-year parts and labor warranty.

I do like this phone when I am talking on it. Of course I ambr /getting a "expandable phone system" to replace this unit. I havebr /used this phone for several years.br /br /Pros:br /1. Good sound quality. Seems to be something Panasonic does well.br /2. Good range. 2.4 GHz will interfere with wireless networks.br /3. Durable outside construction.br /br /Cons:br /1. Buttons 2,5,6,8,9 require pushing very hard to work.br /2. The LCD on the base unit always was unreadable but now isbr / failing.br /3. Base unit is not very smart, must use the handset to set thebr / time!

2 out of 5 stars Keypad problem   March 7, 2005

Had the phone for less than a year and the #1 button on the keypad now has problems accepting the finger press. I have to push down really hard and as a result will dial two 1's.

5 out of 5 stars Virtually indestructible - Also waterproof and shockproof   January 29, 2005
This is a ruggedized phone, with bits of rubber bumpers and sealed electronics. Not sure why they don't mention this key feature, maybe people complained it is not waterproof enough. But you can use the headset in the shower, rinse it under water, drop it on the floor, etc. With "normal" use, it is virtually indestructible. With heavy use, expect to replace the battery about once a year.

5 out of 5 stars Best cordless I have owned   March 21, 2004
I have owned this phone for more than a year and it is the best cordless I have owned. The audio quality and volume are great. The user interface is intuitive.

1 out of 5 stars Piece of Junk   March 17, 2004
I bought this phone a year ago and I end up changing the battery already once. The battery was discharging so fast and recently I stopped using the handset completely. Eventhough I charge it whole night, it is not getting charged. The warranty service is also very bad. Fortunately I bought this phone using my Visa Platinum and they covered the full price. Thanks to Visa.
