Amazon.com Review
The Polycom Soundpoint Pro two-line desktop conference phone combines support for two lines, three-way conference calling, and caller ID with call waiting into one easy-to-operate unit. Its well-chosen convenience and productivity features make it ideal for your busy family or home office.pSetting up the SoundPoint Pro is simple, following the included quick setup guide. A quick reference guide is also included for convenient access to basic phone operations. The slim handset is sturdy and comfortable to hold. The base includes 28 buttons, intuitively arranged, and a large-print LCD. The Soundpoint Pro has seven programming menus, including speed dialing, ring volume, local number storage, line selection, time of day, LCD contrast, and caller ID. While the ringer can only be set to one sound, the volume can be adjusted and the piano-like tone is unique and pleasant.pYou can store up to 20 numbers in memory dialing, and you can import them from the caller ID log. To set up a number for memory dialing, we pressed the program button to display the LCD menu. We entered a number between 1 and 20, dialed the phone number and name, and pressed the program button after each step to save. To dial a stored number, we pressed the program button once, used the volume buttons to select the stored number, and then pressed the speed dial button to make the call. The only way to erase a stored number is to program over the old number. If you subscribe to caller ID with call waiting, you can access these functions using the flash button and LCD. There is a 99-number caller ID log.pOther SoundPoint Pro features are a rear microphone, redial, hold, mute, headset, and speaker buttons. A conference button conveniently brings all callers off hold and into a three-way conversation. All buttons associated with conference calling include red and green lights to let you know the status of a call. For example, a red light means the line is in use, while a blinking green light means the caller is on hold.pIn our tests of the Soundpoint Pro, we found the voice transmission to be clear and did not detect any background interference. Overall, it makes a fine addition to an office environment. i--Emily Bakko/i p BPros:/B UL LISupports two lines and three-way conversations LISturdy construction LIIntuitive button layout LILarge-print adjustable LCD /UL P BCons:/B UL LISpeed dial numbers are not conveniently erased LILimited selection of ringer tones /UL

1 out of 5 stars Stopped working after one day   November 21, 2008
The sound quality of the speaker was fantastic. But when I started using it on calls everybody agreed that my voice sounded tinny and wanted me to pick up the receiver. It's pretty embarrassing when you tell clients that you're using a state-of-the art speaker phone and they tell you to pick up the receiver because you're hard to understand. After one day the microphone stopped working altogether. This is not what I was expecting from the Polycom name. Don't bother buying this phone.

1 out of 5 stars Overpriced Underperforms   April 28, 2006
I was entering a speed dial number, had to refer to the manual. I had already entered the number and played the letter game to get the name in, back to the manual to figure out what "set priority tag" means, okay, back to the phone ... NOT ... the phone decided to time-out my programming an erase everthing. This pretty much sums up this phone.br /br /Note that the phone is WARM. They have changed something from the prior versions so that when you pick up the handset the mouthpiece section that rests against your chin is actually warm to the touch, and you get a nice "warm plastic smell". Tech support says, "yea, mine is hot, too." Note that my previous phones were NOT hot.br /br /This is clearly not Polycom's core strenth.

3 out of 5 stars Little Disappointed   March 22, 2004

The quality of the conference phone is not near as good as the Polycom phones on your conference room table. You have to be pretty close to the phone and speaking into it for others to hear you clearly. If all you want to do is listen to others talk on speakerphone then it is fine....good for listening to conference calls on speakerphone.

1 out of 5 stars Just Stopped Working One Day   February 23, 2002

Suddenly, after 16 months of use, the phone just stopped working. Neither the handset nor the speaker phone works and the LCD display has gone blank (but the LEDs light-up). I called the customer support line and they recognized the problem. But they will not replace or fix the phone without charging me ... since the one-year warranty period ran out four months ago. Obviously I am not going to pay ... for a refurbised phone, especially since I was never really happy with it. Its duplex feature never quite worked well and the mic was not sensitive enough and the speaker volume never went high enough. Overall, the quality of Polycom's home products are drastically inferior to its office products.

2 out of 5 stars Needs more volume   August 13, 2001

I have one. The only reason why I am looking for a different phone now is because the volume is too low. Just like some of the other reviewers, I have the control on 5 (highest) and I still need more volume.
