Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.com Product Description
The Uniden TRU8866 cordless phone system offers an attractive bundle of features with room to grow. 5.8 GHz digital signal transmission offers increased call clarity and security while the impressive caller ID capabilities ensure that you'll never miss a call or lose an important number. Plus, a duplex speakerphone in the base and a standard speakerphone in the handset provide hands-free conversation options.p Housed in a professional-looking, no-nonsense black case, the phone's memory is shared between the caller ID log and the programmable memory dialing--100 names and numbers in the handset, and 100 more in the base unit. You can locate numbers using a alphabetic search tool similar to that of a typical cell phone, and the most commonly dialed numbers can be assigned to 10 speed dial presets accessed on the base unit.p The TRU8866 offers room to grow. It's expandable to 10 handsets (model #TCX860, one included). With additional handsets, you can transfer calls, transfer memory locations, and even use them as an intercom around the house or as a room monitoring system (baby monitor).p Additional features include conferencing, trilingual menu display options, distinctive ring tones, mute, hold, redial, and headset compatibility (headset sold separately). Even with additional handsets, the TRU8866 requires just one phone jack. Simply plug the base unit into a phone jack, and the additional handsets will configure themselves to "talk" directly with the base unit. p BWhat's in the Box/Bbr TRU8866 (base unit and handset), phone line cord, AC power adapter, NiMH battery, battery cover, belt clip, user guide, warranty information

5 out of 5 stars My review   November 23, 2008
Good company and product. Phone was delivered promptly. Sound quality very good, and easily programmed. Excellent buy for its price. Second line works well with fax/printer no issues.

3 out of 5 stars It grew on me   October 26, 2008

I didn't like the phone at first. The extra phones I bought (Uniden TCX905) didn't immediately sync with the base. I had to check the user manual and go through a few extra steps to make them work together. Even so, you can't swap out these phones with the base's phone cradle because they don't fit. But, after you do sync them, they communicate. The problem is, I can also hear the conversation on the second line when I am using the first line, even in private mode. br /br /Worse, I couldn't hear over the static. I was tempted to return it. Then, I called tech support and got the automated assistance, seeing as how I had called at a bad time. It mentioned using only the phone cord that came with the phone, moving the phone to a different location, and other trouble shooting steps. I had used a phone line splitter so I moved the base of the phone so it could have its own outlet and only its original cord. The static cleared up. br /br /Then, at the new phone location,I noticed two features that made me fall in love with this phone: 1) You can migrate phone numbers from one phone's phone book to another and 2) There is a "Do Not Disturb" button that successfully and quietly sends all calls to voice mail without bothering me. Previously, I would have had to run around to every phone and turn off the volumes on each line and try to remember to turn them back on later. br /br /It has so many features that finding and using them was also somewhat overwhelming. I'll say this: I am thankful I still have the presence of mind to figure out this phone but the older I get, the more I'd be happier with something simple.

4 out of 5 stars Nice 2 line phone   October 3, 2008
Like most of the Digital 5.8 Uniden cordless phones, this unit has great sound quality and low noise. Works perfectly within it's operationg range, that's a little better then average. I think the included hanset is slightly better then the other models in the series, a little better sound. I'm very happy with this unit! br /On the negative the base lacks the registration option so other 5.8 models that don't fit in the charging base cannot be registered to the system. I have a couple of the flip phones I used with my old base and was unable to get them to register to this base (even when I connected it to the charging connections). Also the newest accessory handset for the 9000 series will work, but it's slightly larger and deosn't fit in the charging base. With force it will connect allowing it to register to the base, but cannot be charged because constant force is required for it to make contact. This handset will charge in the 9000 series base since it's only very slightly smaller and uses the same power adapter.

2 out of 5 stars Not Suitable for Business Phone Use!   September 27, 2008
This review is being written after two years of use in a busy restaurant and bar, so I've really put this system to the test. Though it has admirable voice quality, this system has so many quirks that it just shouldn't be considered as a primary business phone system. First and foremost, when you are on one of the lines speaking to a customer, and a call rings on the other line, the line you are speaking on gets constantly interrupted with momentary silencing of your voice so that the person on the other end of the line hears your voice dropping out every few seconds while the other line is ringing!!! This is an absolutely unforgivable flaw!br /br /Uniden tech support told me that there is no way to disable this quirk either. You just have to live with it. For shame!br /br /Also, once every few days, the phone system decides to reset itself without warning. So, the phone rings, you answer and it disconnects the person calling while you are greeted with the "Welcome" screen as the system resets itself. After about a minute or so, you're able to receive calls again. As an added bonus, it occasionally screeches super loud feedback into your ear instead of connecting you to the call you are answering. Seriously, it hurts your eardrums something awful. br /br /The signal is VERY fussy too. It doesn't like working when near metal objects like restaurant refrigerators and other large appliances, nor does it work very well if any masonry walls are between you and the base.br /br /Terrible phone system. I have a one line and two line phone system from Uniden and wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Stay clear of this poorly designed, clearly inferior product.

5 out of 5 stars Lots of features in a small package   September 21, 2008
I needed a two-line speakerphone, and this is what I bought. Audio quality is fine, and I can carry the handset outside and wander around my yard and still get a decent signal. There is a speaker on the handset and another one on the base station, and it also has a headset jack. Controls are pretty good and not too convoluted, nice readable amber screen. It does intercom, conferencing, voicemail indicator, phonebook, mute, do not disturb, one-button voicemail retrieval, individual ringer controls, and a bunch of other stuff. Two thumbs up.
