GE Speakerphone, inexpensive, works great! January 27, 2008 This is the second time I bought this particular phone. Yes, the other one is still working.
Living in FL, where we get power outages occur from time to time, you realize quickly that the cordless, battery operated hi tech phones are useless when there is an outage.
This phone needs no batteries and has no high tech features (there is NO caller id, call waiting, answering machine etc etc). As my land line is POTS (plain old telephone service), I wanted a phone that doesn't load up on extra features I don't need.
What it does have: Nice sized buttons that are raised and far apart enough so that you don't hit the wrong keys (if your hands are a bit shaky, if you have long fingernails, or just 'fat fingers' this is important!) It also has a speakerphone (the big blue hard-to-overlook button) that works fairly well, especially considering the price of this phone)& you can also program in your most often dialed numbers.
All in all, a good old fashioned low tech inexpensive kind of phone that works and -most importantly - will continue to work (as long as there is phone service)through a power outage.
Don't buy this one.... December 15, 2007 I own this phone and have had several problems with it. First, there is a loud screech in the handset when it is lifted from the cradle and second, it dials 911 on its own! On two occasions while I was speaking on the phone to a coworker, my local 911 dispatcher beeped in to say that she had recieved a call from my home with no one on the line. Needless to say, this is annoying. I did a google search and have found others that have had similar experiences with GE brand phones made by Thompson Inc. under a license agreement. As a GE Aviation employee, I hate to say that a GE product stinks, but that is how I feel. Buyer beware.
phone September 26, 2007 somewhat OK. When picking up handset with another phone on-line, the other phone is muted...not good. Otherwise, just an average phone.
