Product Description The XL40 Amplified Telephone is designed for persons with moderate to severe hearing loss. Powerful amplifier provides up to 43dB of incoming voice amplification. Adjustable incoming volume control lets you select the loudness to suit your hearing Adjustable tone control (600-2400Hz) lets you adjust the frequency of the incoming voice so that even similar-sounding words, such as "chair" and "share", are crystal clear and easy to understand. Automatic amplifier control sets the amplifier to turn on automatically every time you lift the handset, or you can choose to turn it on manually. Advanced digital electronics design minimizes background noise and further enhances speech clarity so that all words can be heard clearly. Ringer tone switch lets you select Hi or Lo tone to suit your preference. Bright voice mail indicator lets you know you have messages waiting for you. Missed call indicator lets you know that you have missed a call. "Extension in use" indicator lets you know when the extension phone is being used. Large keypad buttons with bright backlighting make dialing easy, even at night. Twelve (12) memory buttons hold up to 15 digits each for one-touch speed dialing.

Very Satisfied With Purchase July 23, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We purchased this phone for our 89-year old mom who lives alone and who is VERY dependent on her hearing aid. It was becoming more and more difficult for her to understand people who called with her old phone. She uses a telephone "button" on her hearing aid to enable her to use the phone. This phone made a big difference. It was easy to use and we are all very satisfied with it. We would recommend it to others who are finding it hard to understand voices on the phone.
No need to talk loudly any more July 16, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
If you are talking very loudly during phone conversations, to enable your loved one to hear you, shout no more... please, consider buying this phone, and you'll all be happy. I purchased this phone for my 86 year old Dad, who already had a cheap phone that had only volume control. Expect to assist an elder loved one with the setup of the phone, and help them learn the controls. I do not live in the same state, but I arranged for my brother to help him. Setup was very simple, and the learning process for my Dad took 15-20 minutes, as he experimented listening to recorded messages. My Dad called me shortly after, exclaiming how well the phone worked, and how well using both the amplifier and tone control hugely increased his ability to hear AND understand conversations on the phone. He was also so pleased that he could use his (inexpensive) hearing aid while using this phone. I must tell you that over the last several years I observed my Dad increasingly emotionally separated from his children, as phone conversations have been so difficult, especially with his daughters, who's pitch are higher than men's. All of his children have noticed the difference, and are enjoying being able to talk to Dad again on the phone. I am so appreciative that I can talk to my Dad more frequently now.
Ringer is too damn loud! June 28, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought a different model Clarity phone. The ringer was adjustable - from extremely loud to fire alarm loud. I was afraid that my mother would get a heart attack from the startle reflex of the ringer going off. She is frail, and I imagined what it would be like if she fumbled the phone while reaching for it! It would drive anyone crazy. I had to return the phone, and fortunately Amazon's return policy is a generous one. I called the Clarity/Ameriphone company to complain about this defect in their phone and asked them if there was any phone they made which permitted the ringer to be turned down to something reasonable. They told me 'no'. All of their phones ring loudly enough to unsettle a person unless they are very hard of hearing. It's amazing to me that they manufacture a phone like this. The phone even has an adjustable ringer control, but it does not permit the phone's ringer to be set at a reasonable volume. The phone does have better clarity and enhanced loudness as compared with the lousy sound of most phones today. But the ringer renders this phone unusable, except for the severely hearing impaired. I'm more than disappointed; I'm angered by the stupidity of the engineering of this phone!
repeat buyer March 26, 2008 This is the 2nd Ameriphone I have purchased, 3 if you count the first 2 I purchased over 6 yrsbr /ago. My dad has hearing loss and since we live so far apart it really helps us stay intouch.br /It is a quality product that is easy for seniors to operate.
great ! March 20, 2008 the ameriphone XL40 works great. my husband has not been able to talk on the phone for years and he wore a hearing aid. he can hear good on this phone and if you're like me and like to be outside a lot, you can turn the ringer up and it shakes the house.
