5 out of 5 stars It is exactly what it looks like...   January 12, 2008

This phone was purchased for my wife to go in our vintage inspired red kitchen. It is perfect. As noted in other reviews, the handset is fairly heavy. If I were rating this phone for every possible negative I would also note that there is this annoying tether that connects the handset to the wall. However, this is not a big negative because we already have a set of cordless phones for use around the house. They are used for long conversations as we can take them into the room with the sofa and lay around conversing for hours while our servants fan us and feed us grapes.

This phone is first, a decorative item. As such, it does an amazing job. Every time my wife looks at it on the wall she kisses me and says, "I love my red phone!" Second, this is a telephone. It gets an amazingly clear signal. There is no static whatsoever. I'm told this relates to the annoying tether I mentioned earlier. Another nice thing about the tether is that because of it, I always know where this phone is. Unlike the cordless phones which may or may not be returned to their cradles after use, this phone is always returned to the same place.

In summary, if you are expecting something cordless and portable, this phone is not for you. If you are looking for a corded wall phone with a vintage look and a colorful twist, you will not be disappointed.

Okay, so I am older and miss things from the past...

The Rotary Telephone was once hi-tech...but it ain't no more.

This is not a rotary phone, it's a push button phone.

The round center in the middle of the buttons is your re-dial button...so don't think you can stick a picture of Fido or your kitty there, or like in the old days, your telephone number.

The hand set is loud and clear. I have caller ID and my caller ID box has redial on it for numbers I have stored there, so a phone like this without all that "jazz" is fine by me. This is a great phone for clarity.

The Plastic is not the old Westinghouse weapons grade plastic....the old phones were so unbreakable you could practically hammer nails with the handset...don't try that with this phone. The plastic is fine, it's just not like your phone from the 60's & 50's. It's not weapons grade...lol.

The phone comes with a long cord so you don't need to buy one, like I did. The long cord you see here on this page is not the same color red as the telephone...FYI.

I've had no problems hearing the caller, or the caller hearing me on this phone. If you speak directly into the mouthpiece you can be too loud for the person on the other end, great for talking over people...lol.

I highly recommend this phone, it's a great kitchen phone, adds a dash of color and spices up the place.

The ringer is not as bad as the original ringers, but it's a ringer for sure. You can turn the ringer off.

The phone comes with a "template for the holes" to mount it on the wall. Two anchors and two screws and it's up. The jack is in the back of the phone.

You have to adjust your habits handling the handest. The handset does not accommodate the desire to rest the phone on your shoulder and use your two hands. You can do it, but it's easier with a handset that is flat. The handset is very comfortable to hold, it's balanced, and it's big. It reaches my ear and mouth comfortably and makes it easy to speak into the phone and easy to hear the caller.

The phone is easy on the eyes. Its clean looking design blends into most every kitchen in America.

I am very happy with this phone, I expect it to last like the old Westinghouse phones, perhaps I expect too much, perhaps not, only time will tell, I sill have a couple of the old black rotary phones made by Westinghouse, they still work....if I hook em up...This phone looks like a rotary phone, but's it's not.

I like the way it looks in my kitchen, and it's long cord lets me go anywhere in the kitchen and beyond.

If you want a new phone with an old look that is familiar to you and reminds you of when you were younger, I think this phone is it, and the rest of you can use cell phones for all I care. I never have to say "can you hear me now" with this phone...

I love my phone. It is the perfect finishing touch to a retro remodeled kitchen. The authentic ringer is a great touch too.

Very happy with this phone. I wanted a red wall phone and loved the look of this. The receiver is a little heavy but, the good thing to that is it will keep you from talking too long. That makes my husband very happy!!!!

The phone is better than I expected. It feels soid looks great! I like the combination of retro design but in a sleek modern brushed aluminum. The ring is nice and loud and it too sound retro. A great buy!
